Aircraft overview and market position

Evolution of the Falcon 900 series

The Falcon 900 was launched in 1984 as a development of the earlier Falcon 50 trijet. It featured an extended fuselage, advanced avionics, and more powerful engines. The 900B followed in 1991 with increased range.

In 1996, the 900EX introduced further enhancements including higher thrust engines for better performance. The EASy flight deck was added to the 900EX in 2004.

The current top-of-the-line 900LX, certified in 2010, builds on the EX platform with blended winglets for a range boost to 4,750 nm. It also features an updated stylish cabin for optimal passenger comfort on long flights.

Key competitors and market differentiation

The Falcon 900LX stands out in the long-range business jet market with its unique trijet configuration. While competitors like the Gulfstream G450 and Bombardier Global 5500 rely on two engines, the 900LX's three-engine design offers distinct advantages.

The additional engine provides enhanced safety and performance, especially for flights over water or remote regions. It also allows the 900LX to access shorter runways and operate in hot and high conditions with greater payload flexibility compared to twin-engine rivals.

Beyond its powerplant, the 900LX differentiates itself with a spacious cabin featuring three lounge areas, advanced connectivity options, and Dassault's revolutionary FalconEye Combined Vision System for superior situational awareness. This combination of performance, efficiency, safety and passenger comfort sets the 900LX apart as a versatile choice for demanding international missions.

Cabin layout and configurations

The Falcon 900LX features a spacious and flexible cabin that can be configured to comfortably accommodate up to 14 passengers. The typical layout is divided into three distinct zones:

  • A forward club section with four facing seats, perfect for meetings or dining.
  • A mid-cabin area with a three-person divan and facing club seats, ideal for relaxing.
  • An aft private lounge with two facing divans that convert into beds on overnight flights.

Two lavatories, one in the forward section and one at the rear, provide convenience and privacy. The fully-equipped galley enables the preparation of gourmet meals on long flights. With over 1,200 cubic feet of interior volume and 24 large windows for abundant natural light, the Falcon 900LX delivers an exceptionally pleasant and productive in-flight experience.

Performance and capabilities

The Falcon 900LX delivers an impressive range of 4,750 nautical miles (8,800 km), allowing it to connect distant city pairs like: Paris to Beijing, New York to São Paulo, Mumbai to London, Geneva to Chicago, Hong Kong to Sydney

Range and speed specifications

With a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.87, the 900LX can whisk passengers to their destinations at a brisk cruise of Mach 0.80. This combination of range and speed, enabled by advanced aerodynamics and efficient Honeywell TFE731-60 engines, sets the 900LX apart as a versatile performer for transoceanic and transcontinental missions alike.

Fuel efficiency

The Falcon 900LX delivers impressive fuel efficiency for an aircraft in its class. Its three Honeywell TFE731-60 engines provide ample power while consuming less fuel than many comparable jets. This not only reduces operating costs, but also minimizes the aircraft's environmental footprint.

Environmental considerations

The 900LX is fully compatible with sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), which can significantly reduce lifecycle carbon emissions. SAF, produced from renewable feedstocks, is a drop-in replacement that requires no modifications to the aircraft or engines. Dassault is committed to supporting the industry's transition to SAF to mitigate the impact of business aviation on climate change.

Passenger experience

Innovation

Advanced avionics and safety features

EASy II flight deck

Efficiency feature

The Falcon 900LX features the advanced EASy II flight deck, providing pilots with enhanced situational awareness and reduced workload. The intuitive graphical interface presents flight planning, automated checklists, and real-time aircraft position and environment data, allowing pilots to fly "eyes up".

This optimized cockpit layout and improved information flow enables more efficient crew coordination and decision making. The integration of the FalconEye Combined Vision System further enhances safety and pilot capabilities, offering better visibility in all weather conditions for approaches down to 100 feet.

FalconEye Combined Vision System

Safety feature

The FalconEye Combined Vision System provides pilots with situational awareness in all weather conditions. It addresses the critical problem of low visibility during approaches and landings.

FalconEye blends synthetic terrain mapping and real-world thermal and low-light camera images into a single view on the head-up display. This advanced capability allows pilots to fly approaches down to 100 feet, greatly improving access and safety even in poor visibility. By enabling operations in conditions that would ground other aircraft, FalconEye is a major advantage for the safety and productivity of 900LX operators.
